WAR OF THE WILDCATS: Cathy Allen, am attractive and independent schoolteacher, is obliged to leave her town and travel to Oklahoma after writing a controversial book. There she meets Jim Gardner, a prosperous oil operator, and Dan Somers, an earnest and sincere cowboy who is determined to protect the interests of the Indians who own the rich oil lands. There follows a fierce battle of wills between Gardner and Somers who soon become enemies as they compete for control of the oil-fields and also for the affections of Cathy. War of the Wildcats is a dynamic and absorbing drama, which features a typically strong and measured performance from "The Duke".
IN OLD CALIFORNIA: John Wayne stars as Tom Craig, a Boston pharmacist who journeys to the West in the days of the great Gold Rush. Soon after his arrival in Sacramento, Craig meets Britt Dawson, an unscrupulous politician, and his beautiful fiancee Lacey Miller, a dancehall singer. Tom manages to successfully organise the ranchers in a revolt against Dawson's between the townspeople (led by Tom) and Dawson's ruthless army of henchmen. A lesser known John Wayne gem, In Old California is a hugely enjoyable, action-packed film.
