Release Date:
29 March 2004
Ewan McGregor (Moulin Rouge) leads a strong cast as Joe, a rootless drifter, who finds work on a barge, owned by Les (Peter Mullan - Trainspotting) and his wife Ella (Tilda Swinton - Adaptation).
On route between Glasgow and Edinburgh they discover the body of a young naked woman floating in the water. Accident? Suicide? Murder?
As the police investigations process, Joe and Ella embark on an intense physical relationship, heightening the tension in the claustrophobic barge and the ever growing web of deceit that Joe leaves in his wake. Based on the novel by Alexander Trocchi, David Mackenzie directs this powerful tale set in the 1950's of illicit sex and suspense.
