Remember the 1970s? Sam Tyler doesn't - he was only four at the time. Smart, savvy, sharp-suited detective Sam is at the top of his game. Cool, calm and collected, if he were a flavour he'd be spearmint. Sam has ultimate control over his work, his life and his relationships. Until his world is turned upside-down when the hunt for a cold-blooded murderer becomes a desperate rescue mission when he suspects that his own girlfriend and fellow cop, Maya, has been kidnapped by the very man he is chasing.

After a near-fatal car accident, Sam finds himself mysteriously transported back to 1973. Confused by his new and outdated surroundings, Sam frantically tries to return to the present, without success. Frightened and alone, Sam must quickly come to turns with what has happened by doing the one thing he knows best - his job. Time after time, returning back to the present eludes Sam. He is trapped in a time warp and something beyond his control is keeping him there. The murderer began his killing spree in 1973 and the police force of the time need his help to solve this and other crimes. Will Sam catch the killer? Will he be able to get back to the present and rescue Maya? Or has he gone crazy? Has he really travelled back in time?
