Stefan Brandt (Louis Jordan) recalls his relationship with Lisa (Joan Fontaine) when he receives a letter from her in turn-of-the-century Vienna. The letter tells how Lisa fell in love with him as a girl, but was devastated when, after spending the night with him, he vanished from her life. A chance encounter years later rekindled her passion, but led to further heartbreak.
