Detective Constable Lenny Milton (Ray Winstone) is an unambitious copper whose best friend, DCI Michael Love (Adrian Dunbar), is now head of the force. Love is tough, charismatic and successful. Adored by his troops and the public, his crusade against crime through a policy of zero tolerance has won many plaudits. He and Milton are old drinking partners, their wives are the best of friends, as are their children. But within seven days their relationship is dramatically altered.

Milton is approached by the police complaints division with claims that his best friend is corrupt, Milton is forced undercover to investigate these allegations. Amongst the family dinners, the drinking binges and day-to-day work, Milton must uncover a truth he desperately doesn't want to learn. Has his best friend been deceiving him all this time? As Milton's suspicions grow, so does the danger of his position.
