Johnny Depp is a policeman before his time in the 1700s, and after being shunned in the city for his progressive ways and new inventive forensic tools, he is sent to the village of Sleepy Hollow to investigate a series of murders.

He gets more than he bargains for, as this creepy village is filled with superstition and the townsfolk are convinced the ghost of the headless horseman is responsible for the deaths.

A romance with the rich local towns girl (Christina Ricci -who, as usual puts in a brilliant performance) further complicates matters, and soon the pressure is on for him to solve the murders and save his loved one while keeping his own head!

The old partnership of Burton and Depp are once again reunited in this film, with the result being an eccentric movie full of black humour.
