Dirk Bogarde is perfectly cast as Sydney Carton in this masterly adaptation of Charles Dickens' French Revolution epic. Faithfully adapted from the novel, the film follows the fortunes of Carton, a disillusioned lawyer, whose world is turned upside down when events in France encroach on his decadent London life. Asked to defend a young French aristocrat named Darnay (Paul Guers), Carton finds himself falling in love with Darnay's fiancée Lucie Manette (Dorothy Tutin). When Darnay returns to France, he is imprisoned by a revolutionary mob. Carton seizes the opportunity for action and, ultimately, redemption. The gripping tale features an outstanding supporting cast including Christopher Lee, Ian Bannen, Alfie Bass, Athene Seyler, Leo Mc Kern, Cecil Parker, Donald Pleasence and Stephen Murray.
This special edition also features the 29 minute documentary A Profile Of A Tale Of Two Cities which features director Ralph Thomas and stars Dorothy Tutin and Christopher Lee sharing their memories about the production.
