Brazil is Terry Gilliam's surrealistically dystopic vision of a 'perfect' future where retro-technology reigns supreme. Everyone is monitored by a secret government agency that forbids love to interfere with efficiency.

When daydreaming bureaucrat Sam Lowry (Jonathan Pryce) becomes unwittingly involved with underground superhero (Robert De Niro) and beautiful mystery woman Jill Layton (Kim Greist), he becomes the tragic victim of his own romantic illusions.

Excellent supporting performances from Michael Palin, Bob Hoskins, Ian Holm, Katherine Helmond, Ian Richardson, Jim Broadbent and Peter Vaughan pay testimony to the broad scope of its powerful, Oscar-nominated script; co-written by director Terry Gilliam.

Brazil is a breath-takingly comic ride, with shudderingly horrifying overtones, that leaves you gasping at its conclusion. A masterwork which is as powerful today as on its release in the 80's.
