A British actor and his girlfriend are captured whilst on tour in Georgia by Chechen rebels along with several Russian soldiers. They are abducted to a remote village, where the horrors of war immediately become apparent. The actors are thrown into a hole that already contains several Russian conscripts and ransomed to his parents in Britain. The ransom doesn't materialise and John, the male actor, is released to raise the cash in Britain. Upon his return he meets up with one of the conscripts who is desperate to save his colleague who is still held captive. This leads to an all out assault on the Chechen village initally by the two men and finally by the Russian military. Featuring explosive action sequences and realistic imagery from the Chechen conflict, Alexsei Balabonov's War shows us a brutal vision of war the world would rather forget.
