Four classic crime dramas, starring Peter Lorre, Boris Karlof and Ralph Byrd. In 'Mr Moto's Last Warning' (1939) a Japanese detective calling himself Mr Moto is abducted and killed in Port Said. But the real Mr Moto (Lorre) has in fact faked his own death, leaving him free to investigate an international conspiracy involving two rogue secret agents in the employ of a foreign power, who plan to mine Port Said harbour and destroy a visiting French fleet. By carefully planting fake evidence, the traitorous agents hope to foment a war between Britain and France, a war that would be to the advantage of the nameless country they work for. Mr Moto poses as a local shopkeeper and goes undercover to apprehend the criminals before they can put their deadly plan into effect. In 'The Mystery of Mr Wong' (1939), detective James Lee Wong (Karloff) must find the 'Eye of the Daughter of the Moon', a priceless but cursed saphire stolen in China and smuggled to America. His search takes him into the heart of Chinatown and to the dreaded House of Hate to find the deadly gem before it can kill again. In 'Dick Tracy Meets Gruesome' (1947), the notorious criminal mastermind Gruesome (Karloff) breaks out of prison and develops a sinister paralysing gas that he uses in a series of daring bank robberies. Hot on his heels is famed sleuth Dick Tracy (Byrd), ably assisted by his girlfriend Tess Trueheart (Anne Gwynne). Finally, in 'Doomed To Die' (1940), Karloff reprises his role as Chinese detective James Lee Wong. When a wealthy shipping magnate dies in a conflagration aboard his flagship, suspicion falls on the son of a rival industrialist who is in love with the dead man's daughter. Recruited by a cub reporter convinced of his friend's innocence, Wong begins to investigate around the waterfronts, and uncovers evidence that will lead to the mysterious killer.
