Description

Ria has been married for 19 years to Ben, her steadfast husband, dentist and butterfly collector. Their sons Adam and Russell are the object of many of their arguments as Ben believes that Ria spoils them, while she is always trying to see their sensitive and good side. Ria feels as if life is passing her by, that her family take her for granted and her friends think her boring and unexciting.

After meeting Leonard, a handsome, rich, businessman in the park, suddenly Ria's dreams of running away and being a free spirit become a possibility. She then becomes torn between her dream and her ordinary, albeit dull, loving and reliable real world.

Originally broadcast on BBC Two between 1978 and 1983 Butterflies ran for four series.
