BBC television adaptation of the classic novel about three adopted brothers who join the French Foreign Legion. The Geste brothers are adopted by the wealthy Lady Brandon (Wendy Williams), but over time her financial situation deteriorates until she is forced to consider selling her famous Blue Water sapphire. When the jewel goes missing however, the Geste brothers find themselves under suspicion. In a self-sacrificial gesture, each brother confesses to the theft in order to protect the others, and in disgrace, but with their personal honour intact, the brothers join the French Foreign Legion in the North African desert. Here they come under the command of the ruthless Sergeant Lejuane (John Forgeham), who has heard the rumours about the brothers and believes that they still have the sapphire in their possession. As the Legionairres battle insurmountable odds, an even deadlier battle of wills is played out between the noble brothers and the cunning Lejuane.
