'The Twelve Chairs' - 'The man who made 'Blazing Saddles' and 'The Producers' brings you his funniest comedy ever...'
Mel Brooks's second directorial outing, (after his hilarious debut 'The Producers'), 'The Twelve Chairs' is based on an old Russian folktale. The story concerns an old woman who reveals on her deathbed that she has hidden jewels inside one of 12 dining room chairs that have been sold and are now scattered. Ippolit Vorobyaninov (Ron Moody), an ageing ex-nobleman in Communist Russia 10 years after the revolution, is seeking the lost treasure. However the conniving village priest Father Fyodor (Dom DeLuise), also heard the deathbed confession... and so begins the race to track the chairs down and retrieve the jewels.
'The History Of The World - Part 1' - 'A Little Something to Offend Everyone... '
A Riotous comedy that spoofs the history of the world from the Stone Age to the French Revolution. Moses descending from the mountain with the Commandments, Nero in Imperial Rome, Louis XVI of France and even Leonardo Da Vinci are among those at the receiving end of Brooks' wisecracks. The film presents a zany, fast-moving humourous tapestry of the kind that only the inimitable Mel Brooks can provide. Brooks himself appears in five roles and is supported by Dom DeLuise, Madeline Kahn and Cloris Leachman.
'Life Stinks' - 'From Fortune 500 - to Fortune's Fool!'
Goddard 'Pepto' Bolt (Mel Brooks), is a billionaire challenged by a business rival to live on the streets for one month without his connections or money. Once there, he is befriended by a bag lady, sparking off an unlikely romance...
'Silent Movie' - 'Marceau Speaks!'
To save their film studio from a take over Mel Funn (Mel Brooks), a has-been movie director has the novel idea of producing silent movies. After a barrage of gags and comic adventures, incredibly his idea works! Co-starring Marty Feldman, Dom DeLuise, Sid Caesar and a plethora of Holywood stars in cameo appearances. Including the only speaking part in the film (- from mime artist Marcel Marceau...?!).
'To Be Or Not To Be' - 'That is the movie!'
The tale of a Polish acting troupe which becomes heavily involved in an outrageous scheme to save the Polish underground during World War II... Mel Brook's stars as Dr. Frederick Bronskin in this hilarious re-working of Ernst Lubitsch's 1942 classic... including the infamous 'Hitler Rap'!
'High Anxiety' - A Psycho-Comedy: Danger, Intrigue, Romance, And... A Touch of Kinkiness!
Mel Brooks stars as Dr. Richard Thorndyke, newly appointed director of the Psychoneurotic Institute for the Very, VERY Nervous. By virtue of his new position he has made powerful enemies who plot to kill him using his own rare medical condition, known as 'High Anxiety' - an extemely severe kind of vertigo - as the ideal means. A wildly hilarious film which very cleverly satirises many famous films by thriller maestro, Alfred Hitchcock.
'Young Frankenstein' - 'The scariest comedy of all time!
Neurosurgeon Dr. Friedrich von Frankenstein (Gene Wilder) inherits a castle from ancestor, a notoriously experimental German baron. Discovering his ancestor's papers, he decides to recreate his 'shocking' experiments - namely, reanimating the dead...
A witty and farcical script, with great attention to detail and a high level of affection for its literary and cinematic sources - in particular James Whale's classic film of the 1930s 'Frankenstein' and 'Bride of Frankenstein', make this one of the best screen comedies ever made.
