Directed by: Brad McGann

Based on Maurice Gee's bestselling novel, writer-director Brad McGann's debut feature is an atmospheric and haunting mystery thriller starring Matthew MacFadyen and Miranda Otto. Upon receiving news of his father's death, respected but burnt-out photojournalist Paul Prior (MacFadyen) returns from assignment in the world's various war zones to the remote small-town community in New Zealand he left 17 years ago. During a nostalgia-tinged visit to his now empty childhood home, Paul chances upon 16-year-old Celia (Emily Barclay), the daughter of his old flame, Jackie (Jodie Rimmer).

Despite their age difference, they soon form a bond that is immediately frowned upon by Celia's mother and by Paul's brother Andrew (Colin Moy) and his wife Penny (Otto). Against the wishes of their families the two continue to meet in secret until, unexpectedly, Celia goes missing. As the prime suspect in the investigation into Celia's disappearance, Paul becomes a target for violent threats from the locals. But as he begins to come to terms with long-buried memories and the secrets of his past, Paul realises the truth is far more harrowing than he dared imagine.
