Eli and his sister Nellie are an odd pair - he is an ageing bachelor with a reputation for being one for the ladies; she, on the other hand, has no reputation at all when it comes to romance. When their father dies, leaving them a run-down pickle factory and a load of problems, not only do Eli and Nellie have to come to terms with their new-found staff, harder still they must come to terms with each other. The comic team of Jimmy Jewel and Hilda Baker take on the roles of Eli and Nellie.
A Breach of the Peace:
When Nellie tries to shift Pledge's Picallili to a prime position at the supermarket, she is charged with shoplifting. Her solicitor outlines her defence - blame Eli!

Nellie decides to take Eli on holiday to Blackpool. But he has an odd way of showing gratitude, especially when she mistakenly hands over the rent money.

Storm the delivery horse is ill and Eli decides to get rid of it - along with Stan, its keeper. Lily tells him to give Stan a send off party, so they invite the Lord Mayor to present his gold watch. Eli takes Stan for a drink but doesn't know how to break the news to him.
