Description
1946 was a time of austerity, of bread and petrol rationing and not enough new homes. But this is the story, in picture and song, of how we turned that first bleak year of peace into a sentimental journey - dancing in the rain of a stormy Whitsun, enjoying a knees-up in the hop fields of Kent, and turning the Easter parade of weddings into a festival of love.
It was the year when "It's That Man Again" tickled the nation's funny-bone, the Windmill Girls shook their shapely legs four times a night, and we fell in love with home-grown film stars like James Mason and Margaret Lockwood. And all year long we listened to the romantic crooners until the Inkspots and the young Sinatra (to name only two) became the soundtrack to our lives.
