Sanibel Island, Off the gulf coast of Florida, is home to some of the most spectacular bird life in the world including one third of all the Roseate Spoonbills in existence, yellow-crowned night herons hunting fiddler crabs, black-necked stilts and skimmers, the might bald eagle, pelicans, egrets, willets and wood storks.

Arizona attracts thousands of bird watchers to its southern border with Mexico where they can view both the marvellous scenery and the spectacular birds of the madera canyon including such dazzlingly colourful varieties as the heavenly blue grosbeak, the flaming vermilion flycatcher, the vivid yellow and red western tanager, the iridescent green and violet magnificent hummingbird and the rare and much sought after elegant trogan.

The Languna atascosa national wildlife refuge in Texas has an incredibly diverse habitat that is home to a rich variety of resident and migratory birds. Among the many rare and colourful species to be found here are the spectacular altamira oriole, the golden-fronted woodpecker, the great kiskadee and the tropical green jay.

From Mulshoe to Galveston enjoy the visual poetry of thousands of magnificent sandhill cranes taking to the early morning sky, great flocks of beautiful avocets wheeling and diving like a precision drill team, a flotilla of majestic white pelicans remaining motionless as they ride the turbulent coastal waves, roseate spoonbills in full breeding plumage sharing a rookery with dazzling white egrets and the last wild flock known to be in existence of the legendary whooping cranes foraging in their winter feeding grounds.
