Vincente Minnelli directs Kirk Douglas and Anthony Quinn in Lust For Life made in 1956 and based on the best-selling novel by Irving Stone, which was taken from letters between Vincent and his brother Theo. Where does genius end and madness begin? Vincent Van Gogh (Douglas) starts out as a zealous man of God, but he soon discovers a passion for art and a love of his cousin. Spurned by the woman he loves and rejected as a painter, Van Gogh gravitates to Paris and its vibrant Impressionist movement. There, he paints and establishes a friendship with Paul Gaugin (Anthony Quinn, who won an Academy AwardŽ for his performance in this film), but only after he has taken his own life at the age of 37 does the world discover the incredible talent of Van Gogh.
