Before the discovery of anaesthetics patients requiring surgical treatments were strapped down with leather bands, held down by brawny assistants and suffered amputations while fully conscious. Dr Bolton, appalled at the suffering, is convinced that there is another way for operations to be performed painlessly. But the advancement of science is not achieved without personal sacrifice and as Dr Bolton's experiments proceed he finds he requires the assistance of murderers to fulfil his dream. Made in 1958 but not released until 1964.
