Description
World War II changed the lives of millions of people. The threat of attack made it crucial for Britain's imports to be reduced and self-sufficiency to be pursued.
Dig for Victory was a key government campaign that urged people to cultivate their own gardens, local parks and allotments in a bid to increase food production. It was hugely successful and empowered all generations to feel that they too were "doing their bit".
This film brings the reality of wartime gardening to life through interviews, archive footage, images and recollections from members of the Women's Land Army and many of those who helped to Dig for Victory.
