Perennial loser Budgie Bird is nearing the end of his prison sentence, but what's he going to do when he gets out? Where can he go? His girlfriend Hazel's dumped him and his wife hasn't visited him the whole time he's been in the nick. He also has money troubles - not only is he skint but he owes too. Then he's paid a visit by Charlie Endell, but will this make things better or much, much worse?
Adam faith gives a career-best performance as chancer extraordinaire Budgie Bird in the second series of the top-rated London Weekend Television drama series that was first transmitted in 1972. Created and written by celebrated screenwriters Keith Waterhouse and Willis Hall (Billy Liar, Worzel Gummidge) and with a solid supporting cast including Lynn Dalby as Budgie's long-suffering girlfriend, Iain Cuthbertson (Children of the Stones, The Railway Children) as the bad-tempered spiv Charles Endell, esquire, and John Rhys-Davies (Lord of the Rings, Sliders) as his henchman, Laughing Spam Fritter. The series attracted a high calibre of guest stars such as Georgina Hale (as Budgie's wife, Jean), Jack Shepherd, James Bolam, Gordon Jackson, Derek Jacobi, Kenneth Cranham and Alfie Bass.
