Box set containing nine films starring Shirley Temple. In 'Captain January' (1936), a lighthouse keeper finds a little girl (Temple) who is washed ashore tied to some wreckage. He adopts her and they become inseparable. Eventually her real family finds her and tries to take her away. 'Dimples' (1936) is set in New York in the 1850s. While lovable pickpocket 'Professor' Eustace Appleby (Frank Morgan) works the crowd, his talented granddaughter Dimples (Temple) dances for pennies. Dimples demands that Appleby stop his thieving ways, but every time he tries to follow the straight and narrow, he comes out the loser. While Dimples entertains at the home of society matron Mrs. Caroline Drew (Helen Westley), Appleby pilfers several valuable objects. This time he's caught with the goods, but Dimples gallantly takes the blame. Touched by this, Mrs. Drew adopts the little girl, enabling her to find success on the legitimate stage. In 'The Little Colonel' (1935), after Southern belle Elizabeth Lloyd (Evelyn Venable) runs off to marry Yankee Jack Sherman (John Lodge), her father, a former Confederate colonel during the Civil War, vows to never speak to her again. Several years pass and Elizabeth returns to her home town with her husband and young daughter (Temple). The little girl charms her crusty grandfather and tries to patch things up between him and her mother. In 'The Littlest Rebel' (1935), Temple plays a Southern girl who visits President Lincoln so that she can persuade him to release her Confederate father from prison. In 'Baby Take a Bow' (1934), Eddie Ellison (James Dunn) is an ex-con who spent time in Sing-Sing prison. Kay (Claire Trevor) marries him as soon as he serves his time. Five years later, Eddie and his ex-convict buddy Larry (Ray Walker), have both gone straight, and Eddie and Kay have a beautiful little girl named Shirley (Temple). However, Welch has kept a close eye on them for years. He believes in 'once a criminal, always a criminal'. Then, when Eddie's employer's wife's pearls go missing, it comes out that Eddie and Larry both spent time in prison, and they're fired. Welch suspects that Eddie and Larry have something to do with the theft of the pearls. Will Welch prove that Eddie and Larry had something to do with the theft, or will the truth prevail? In 'Bright Eyes' (1934), when a maid is accidentally hit by a car and killed, her young orphaned daughter (Temple) is forced to live with the snooty couple her mother used to work for. A custody battle soon ensues between an aviator who adores the little girl and the couple's crotchety Uncle Ned (Charles Sellon). 'Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm' (1938) is about a radio presenter who turns a little girl (Temple) into a star. In 'Just Around the Corner' (1938), Penny Hale (Temple) is excited to return from boarding school to live with her widower dad (Charles Farrell), but when she learns that he's lost his real estate project, and they now live in a basement, she sets out to win over a crotchety real estate developer - whom she mistakenly believes is 'Uncle Sam'. Finally, in 'Susannah of the Mounties' (1938), orphan girl Susannah Sheldon (Temple) becomes the mascot of the Canadian Mountie outpost headed by Superintendent Standing (Moroni Olsen). Mountie Angus 'Monty' Montague (Randolph Scott) and his sweetheart (and Standing's daughter), Vicky (Margaret Lockwood), appoint themselves as Susannah's unofficial parents, doing their best to help the girl overcome her terrible ordeal.
