Drama starring Danny Glover as Vietnam war veteran Jake Neeley. Crippled with guilt over lives lost under his command in the war, Jake has lived alone in a small cabin in the woods of the Pacific Northwest for the past 35 years. His only brush with society is the occasional drive into town to pick up supplies from widowed storekeeper Kate (Linda Hamilton). This life of isolation comes to an abrupt end when old army buddy Henry (David Strathairn) visits with his young half-Vietnamese daughter Lenny Hocknell (Zoe Weizenbaum). Henry is dying of lung cancer as a result of exposure to Agent Orange during the war, and wants to leave Lenny in Jake's care. A reluctant Jake refuses - but Henry, trusting in his unwavering faith in Jake, leaves his daughter and vanishes. Can Jake ever come to terms with Lenny's presence and all the ghosts from his past that it represents?
