Triple bill featuring three classic movies starring Katharine Hepburn. In 'The African Queen' (1951) a prim missionary (Hepburn) is forced to team up with a gin-swilling river trader (Humphrey Bogart) when her village is destroyed during the Great War. They flee from the Germans down the Congo, aboard the trader's battered ship, 'The African Queen'. In 'On Golden Pond' (1981), for 48 years, Professor Norman Thayer Jr (Henry Fonda, in his last film performance) and his wife Ethel (Hepburn) have holidayed at their New England cottage on Golden Pond. This time round they have an extra guest - Billy Ray (Doug McKeon), the son of their daughter Chelsea's (Jane Fonda) boyfriend, Bill. The generation gap is soon highlighted, with Norman and Billy clashing frequently and fiercely. However, as the summer progresses Norman begins to forge the kind of close relationship with the boy that he has always denied Chelsea, and comes to realise how much happiness he has missed out on with his own daughter. In 'The Iron Petticoat' (1956), when a Russian Mig strays into US air space, airforce captain Chuck Lockwood (Bob Hope) is given the task of forcing it down and apprehending its pilot. He is surprised to find that his quarry is a woman, Captain Kovelenko (Hepburn), who has chosen to defect on the grounds that as a woman she is discriminated against in her homeland. As the pair debate the values of capitalism against communism, love begins to cut across the political divide, but the romance is put on hold when a disgruntled KGB makes moves to apprehend the defector.
